Career Peer Guide

Greetings, I’m Jacob Garcia. I am a current UNM student pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree through the School of Engineering. I am originally from Santa Fe and moved to Albuquerque in 2022 to pursue higher education. I decided to major in mechanical engineering by pure chance. During my first year of high school, I wanted to take a welding and car mechanics' class. Unfortunately, the year I went, they had closed half the campus along with the classes I planned on taking. At that point I didn’t care what class I took, so the counselor threw me into an intro to engineering class. From that class, I learned hands-on experience of engineering from a business perspective. I enjoyed that class so much that I ended up taking it throughout high school. Now here I am majoring in it and planning to pursue it as a career after college.  

Life always has a funny way of unraveling itself.
