Career Peer Guide

Hi! Meet Lichelle M. DeClay. Lichelle is currently a UNM senior, pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology. She is interested in understanding how human interactions shape society–from the impacts of social, religious, political, or cultural shifts to the psychological responses’ individuals have to these changes. Her academic journey fuels her commitment to respecting, listening to, and understanding the unique experiences and perspectives of others. Guided by a strong belief in empathy and open-mindedness, she approaches both life and work with compassion and understanding.

As a Career Peer Guide, Lichelle is dedicated to providing personalized support to help you succeed in your career. Whether you’re crafting a resume, preparing for an interview, or navigating your professional journey, she is here to guide you every step of the way. She enjoys connecting with others and is committed to helping individuals achieve their career goals. Her professional work ethic and approachable nature makes her a trusted resource for students seeking career advice.

In addition to her role as a Career Peer Guide, Lichelle contributes to various areas of Career Services, including customer service, employer outreach, and guiding student along their career paths. She is excited to collaborate with students, offering her support and encouragement as students pursue their professional dreams.

Lichelle is originally from Crownpoint, New Mexico, located within the Eastern Agency of the Navajo Nation but moved to Albuquerque in 2022. She joined Career Services as Student Support in August of 2023 and became a Career Peer Guide in August of 2024. Outside of her career pursuits, she enjoys spending time with family, painting, cooking, reading books, and listening to music. One of her long-term goals is to become a mental health provider and work in a school setting, where she can help students navigate life challenges and thrive academically and emotionally.
